News from the bargaining table

Face-to-face bargaining started on June 4th, 2012. The Union and Employer negotiating teams introduced themselves and exchanged opening documents. Both parties confirmed that they would like to negotiate an on-time settlement by August 31.

The Union bargaining team presented all 28 demands that we will be discussing at the negotiating table. Management presented only their non-monetary proposals and indicated that their monetary proposals would not be tabled at this time. They advised that, when tabled, their monetary proposals would entail more than salary. (The colleges identify monetary proposals as those which will either cost or save them money.)

Detailed discussions followed the opening talks. Among the proposals that the Union bargaining team advanced at this stage were two modifications to the Collective Agreement which would improve the job security and employment rights for partialload teachers.

The full list of faculty proposals is available through your local. You may contact your local president or communications officer directly for access to the list.

Summer plans

The faculty team will be working throughout the summer — 22 days of direct face-to-face negotiations are scheduled — more than enough to reach a settlement if one is possible with the employer.

Communications

Working with staff from OPSEU, the bargaining team is arranging the communication workshop for local presidents and communication officers.
